FeedAssure™ Facts FeedAssure™ is a feed industry-customized HACCP (Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point) program of processes and controls that bring the highest safety standards to feed production. FeedAssure™ was the first feed industry HACCP program developed in North America and one of the first in the world. Development began in 1996, under the leadership of the Animal Nutrition Association of Canada and implementation began in 1999. Today over 180 feed mills and related facilities are HACCP certified under the FeedAssure™ program. These facilities represent an estimated 70% of commercial feed production. The FeedAssure™ program was modeled after the Food Safety Enhancement Program (FSEP), a successful program developed in 1991 by Agriculture Canada in consultation with the food industry in Canada. Certification under the FeedAssure™ program carries the weight of independent, third party verification that safety controls are effective and are being followed. To maintain their certification, FeedAssure™ members undergo annual audits by SGS Canada Inc. The FeedAssure™ auditing protocol was developed by an international team of SGS HACCP auditors and fine-tuned with the input of the Canadian feed industry. The protocol is consistent with the HACCP requirements of the U.N. Codex Alimentarius Commission and also incorporates key elements of the regulatory standards of governments in Canada, the United States and Europe. | ||
